Ground Zero Mosque Debate Answered Decisively

The thing about last night's 60 Minutes segment is that it answered all of the questions we needed to know. After watching it why would any reasonable person be opposed to it?

Although this debate should be over, cognitive dissonance theory can predict zealots will become more entrenched in their opposition to this project.

The woman who stirred up this issue seems like a very angry individual who manufactured the controversy to get herself into the news & feel important.

Last time I checked, keeping any religion from worshipping on its own private property is unconstitutional. Despite my disagreement with all existing religions, I do defend their right to exist.

Just another example of how individuals use religious differences to pull people apart.

Because religious zealots aren't reasonable, this farce will continue.

Thanks for the info, John. Very helpful to know the facts and details.

Cognitive dissonance theory predicts that people who have already staked their claim and who participated in the rallies and donated to this cause or spoken out publicly about how the this center show not be built will only become MORE entrenched.

Just watch it happen. And then see a parallel with the Christian faith.

60 Minutes has an older audience, but this is something anyway. Thanks for sharing.

60 Minutes does have an older audience, but now that they have their pieces online, we can get it seen by young people who only get information online.

Copy the code to your Facebook news feed, your blog, or email it.

Just click the share button on the video player to get the code. I'm doing it.

I have an excellent compromise. We don't have to strongly oppose the Islamic center (or at all) and still agree that moderate Islam is still toxic. We don't have to view all Muslims as maurading terrorizing Jihadis or think that that any of them might devolve into that to agree that while there is no God but the God, Mohamed is not his prophet.

The longer this goes on, the more I doubt that it is really zealots fighting against the mosque. Sure, there are a few over the top fundamentalist Christians who are enraged by this, but I think it's more likely that it's an election year wedge issue being kept alive by certain political groups.

60 Minutes failed to ask the questions that needed to be asked. They didn't ask Sharif El- Gamal how he came from being a waiter just a couple years previously to purchasing multi-million dollar buildings.

Not a single question about Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's long history of involvement with jihadist front organizations or the chapter in his 2004 book entitled, "America: A Sharia-Compliant State."
