Reality Check: What Must Be the Case if Christianity is True?

16) That while the results of science are assured when it comes to chemistry, physics, meteorology, mechanics, forensic science, medical science, rocket science, computer science, and so forth, when it comes to evolutionary science that shows all present life forms have common ancestors, or when science tells us that dead bodies do not arise from the grave because total cell necrosis is irreversible, the results of science are wrong because the Bible says otherwise.

We do not think it is natural for dead men to resurrect, otherwise there would be no miracle, and no reason to regard Jesus as divine.

Lvka.

You said it was Jesus rising from the dead which makes Him divine?

According to the gospels Lazarus, aswell as a 12 year old girl rose from the dead.
So did the dead saints when Jesus was crucified.....should we regard them as divine too?

The problem Christians have with rvolution is obvious:

We humans cannot be both "Created in the image of God" and descended from a common ancestor of the other great apes, so they choose the option that strokes their egos the most.

P.S. Put a sock in it, DM.

I agree for the most part, though there are some who support evolution but posit some type of change.

Regardless, theologians are left to explain:
- which hominid, exactly, was the first 'human' with a soul?
--- how would this primitive hominid have had the mental faculties such as to comprehend god's commands and fully choose against them?

- where there natural disasters/flesh eating bacteria before the fall?
--- If not, what evidence would we gather to support this geologically or archaeologically?
--- If so, where was man such that he was protected from these harms in perfection?

- I don't recall Genesis stating anything about a shift in our internal nature, only our external state (out of direct experience with god (though he continues to speak directly to Cain...) and out of the garden); therefore, where did the 'have evil/half good' state of the will come from?

- Lastly, Paul rests his theological case heavily on a 'one man' Adam and a 'one man' Christ... a one man Adam is certainly flawed and therefore are we permitted to drop any of Paul's claims in this area?

These are valid issues from my wrestling with these and are typically answered in the typical manner: it's just a mystery but figuratively it definitely happened.

The christians that understand science accept evolution those that don't, don't.

Lazarus was not the author of his own resurrection.

I was just making a statement based on what you said (Jesus rising from the dead is what makes Him divine).

Point being, Jesus was not the author of His resurrection either because it never happened!

Not believing us is one thing, accusing us of incoherence is another.

Its not about believing you, you have nothing to offer to believe in because you did not witness Jesus resurrection, you were not there!....

I wouldn't go as far as to say your incoherent, you simply believe what is written by unknown superstitious people who have nothing more then hearsay testamony as evidence!

I found an incredibly helpful article on the facts of the resurrection to be presented by Richard Carrier in Why I Don't Buy the Resurrection Story.

Or you could just buy the BOOK he contributed to containing his most up to date case and supporting evidence.

In any case, the bottom line is that the case for the resurrection lies completely on scripture. Richard does an excellent job discussing the status of the gospels as historical evidence.

Since these are the 'facts' we all have to go on, I concur with shane that we must discuss 'facts'. Assertions will not do. If the gospels fail as historically reliable sources, so does the likelihood that they could be factual about the most naturalistically-defying act in all of history.

No,.. but the author of this blog did: in this and other related articles.
