A Cute Song Written About Me By JP Holding. Maybe Someday He'll Answer My Arguments! ;-)

Here are the lyrics:

Well the north side of Angola
Is the cleanest part of town
And if you go up there
You better just beware
Of carpet cleaner Doubting John

Now DJ with his hat on
made him stand about two foot four
Hes a storefront cowboy with an ego boost
and a horse bit in his craw

And its sad, sad Doubting John
The saddest man in the whole danged town
Sadder than a stomped-on frog
And meaner than a Dawkins blog

Now DJ he a conman
And he likes to sell his books
And he likes to shine up on their front
With his right-good handsome looks!

He got a blog he posts on daily
Where he puts all his rantings at
He got to sign in there a thousand times an hour
For raisin up the traffic stats

And its sad, sad Doubting John
The saddest man in the whole danged town
Sadder than a stomped-on frog
And meaner than a Dawkins blog

Well one day bout a year ago
DJ shootin pool
And there on Dee Dees forum
There was J. P. Holding
And whoo, John lost his cool

Well he dragged himself on over
And the beating did proceed
And Doubting John had learned a lesson bout a-messin
with apologists out his league

And its sad, sad Doubting John
The saddest man in the whole danged town
Sadder than a stomped-on frog
And meaner than a Dawkins blog

Well J.P. sent John a -reelin
And when they went aside to see
DJ looked like a cartoon villain
Whod been blown up with TNT

And its sad, sad Doubting John
The saddest man in the whole danged town
Sadder than a stomped-on frog
And meaner than a Dawkins blog

And its sad, sad Doubting John
The saddest man in the whole danged town
Sadder than a stomped-on frog
And meaner than a Dawkins blog

Yeah, he was sadder than a stomped-on frog
And meaner than a Dawkins blog

JP Holding promises to write a rebuttal to my work. He (or someone with his approval) wrote:

"John W. Loftus continues to be one of the most well-known internet celebrities of atheism ever since the publication of his collective biography entitled Why I Became an Atheist. In it, he argues that he was once a champion of Christian moral values but was later ostracized by his local faith community for committing adultery and was subsequently overwhelmed by intellectual arguments in which he advocates that by these arguments alone Christianity hangs by a very thin rope. For these past years since the publication of his book, Loftus' writings have remained unchallenged, or at least, have been challenged inadequately."

Thanks JP. Is there anyone saying the same kind of things about you and your arguments?

Well known apologist JP Holding may very well be. But this kind of childish mudslinging really makes one consider whether he has anything meaningful to say.

I particularly enjoy the part where he sings his own praises for his ability to send you "a-reelin'." Seems more than a bit... egotistical.

Honestly, if this kind of idiocy is the best Christianity has to offer in response to attack, then there really must not be much that is worth defending.

A Christian who can't sing putting this much trouble into defaming a dedicated and intellectually honest writer - now THAT'S sad.

Too bad he can't sing.

Is there some link to this infamous thread where you supposedly got such a beating, John? I think I'd like to decide for myself.

That is the one of the saddest songs... Not because of the content but the mind who took the time to write such a thing. Extremely childish. What would Jesus do ?

Unbelievable. I knew Turkel was an upstart with a fragile ego but this childish nonsense puts him on a whole new level of pettiness.

Shame his bounteous lord never saw fit to bless him with a voice that can hold a tune - which you'd think would be quite essential if one is considering a sideline as a satirical apologetic singer.

I am dumbstruck beyond belief at this video. I am becoming ever more convinced that Turkel is the ultimate prankster. He doesn't mean a word he says, he's just laughing at us all through those beady eyes.

Ben, the two times Holding and I had a serious debate on the issues took place starting on this page in this thread and starting on this page in this thread.

If you take the time to read through those two threads I kicked him to the curb.

I think maybe it's just a case of needing to find a niche. The field is already full of Christian scholars with doctorates from bible colleges who take the "debate" seriously. Meanwhile there's obviously financial backing for such an approach - and if you don't care about intellectual honesty or being taken seriously, well there you go. Pretty sad existence if you ask me.

Wow, 2003. This is ancient crap. Not sure who, but someone needs to grow the eff up. I'm trying to understand all the bad blood floating around the blogosphere. So I'll keep reading. Thanks for the links, John.

One of the passages I try and model my attempts to evangelize is 1 Peter 3:15-16, to wit:

"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."

It's a straight-forward admonition to evangelize, but not to do this sort of petty nonsense (posting mocking videos of one's debate opponents). I don't know the backstory between you gentlemen, but as a Catholic Christian, I heartily apologize, because his behavior is out of line here.

Surely not!..You must have misunderstood matters right?...Because J.P Holding is involved in a special blog thats supposedly aimed specially at stamping out certain peoples egos.

And so far it seems he`s really proud of it.

These wonderful Christian folk are always on here from time to time reminding us about the importance of faithful folks personal relationships with God/s.Arguing black and blue that we should consider and accept these supposed personal experiences of theirs as real evidence for Gods existence.

Why even J.P.Holding might be one of those to expect that we should!.

Some evidence!...Pffffffft!...What a fucking joke hmmm?

You know, if you knew (or were) a good singer or songwriter, a response would be sort of interesting. Silly, but interesting. Just so long as the song was done playfully more so than in the petty manner of the original song.

I recently read Richard Carrier's book that responds to JP Holding... After reading that book, this video makes perfect sense. I love how he sings "danged" in the song, like he might somehow sully himself by singing "damned." HA! Priceless.

If you want to see Holding reduced to the sniveling douche bag that he certainly is, you need to check out his "debates" with Farrell Till at theskepticalreview.com.
This seventy-something year old former preacher truly embarrasses Holding to a degree I have not seen equaled by anyone, with the possible exception of Richard Carrier. Till even challenges Holding to a public debate,at the location of his choice, but Holding completely wimps out. Can J.P. spell C-O-W-A-R-D?

I read Carrier's response to Holding and Holding's response to Carrier (and then carrier's second response and Holding's reply. Carrier said he won't reply any more unless someone pays him more money)
I thought Carrier's tactics were pretty bad when he misrepresented Bremmer, Yamauchi and the views of other historians and quote-mined Celsus and later trying to sneak in his "social disapproval" model as if Malina approved it. In another piece Carrier blamed Holding for poor research skills because of a typo Carrier made . (Everyone akes typos Carrier, but you don't have to be stupid about it.)
He did get the better of holding on some issues though

Obsidian,

Your analysis of Carrier's critiques of JP Holding's scholarship are ignorant at best. Richard Carrier spends hundreds of pages in "Not the Impossible Faith" thoroughly showing the wreckless and blatantly dishonest drivel that JP Holding tries to pass off as scholarship. So out of a thousand mistakes the Holding makes and a thousand more lies that Carrier points out, Holding tries to defend against a fraction of Carrier's criticisms. Holy crap, this must be what an Area 51 convention feels like. "There's aliens man... they're out there..." Nuts

John,
I have had some dealings with the infamous JP several times.I tried to corner his belief on the return of Christ and asked him why Christ didn't keep his word about returning in his present generation. That seems to be an Achilles Heel with most apologist.I'm amused by the way they stumble through their explanations.

I guess the point they were trying to make is Christians are happy and atheists are sad. But the emotional condition of either side is irrelevant to whether or not each side is true.
I think it's a whole lot easier to make fun of Christians (even Christians do it.)
