Though I had studied the Bible for over 30 years, I had never undertaken such a coordinated effort."<BR/><BR/>Your quote above is very telling. I wonder if you read it again if it speaks to you as it did to me.<BR/><BR/> It is interesting to read how people claim they are "free" to think on their own; which seems to be code for describing throwing of their former belief in Christianity. Have you ever stopped to think that you are not the first or only to begin to think this way and you are merely subscribing to what many others believe. Doesn't mean it's right. That doesn't mean it is yours alone, it means you are following another's path; you are backing it up with literature written to that particular bias and then calling it free thought! Ironic isn't it. Goes right back to Genesis when the serpent said to Eve, "Did God really say..."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21219785.post-1163134653433821512006-11-09T23:57:00.000-05:002006-11-09T23:57:00.000-05:00Scott, when you were a religious person, what did ...Scott, when you were a religious person, what did you love about God? One of the cruelest deceptions about God is making people work for something they already have from Him - His love. Some people feel they have to pray for mercy and whatnot from gods, but Jesus already demonstrated that the God of Easter has provided for that already. So we pray for these things in disbelief of Jesus's words. We ought to pray for faith. So I ask you, What if God just wanted to enjoy your company? Wonder if He just wanted to sit down to dinner with you and enjoy you - would you be too sophisticated for that? What would you talk to Him about? What would you want Him to know about your life that you love and enjoy? Wonder if He genuinely cared that you be able to verbalize your heartfelt needs and hurts with Him? Wonder if He didn't even expect you to say any words? Wonder if you just needed to groan or cry about the mistreatment you've received from others? Wonder if eventually He wanted you to see and understand why others mistreated you? Wonder if He wanted you to understand why you mistreat others? Wonder if He would never give you anything that would come between you and Him? Wonder if all God desired was to share His creation with you? wonder if God had nothing to prove and didn't want you to have to be involved in proving yourself to Him? Wonder if God hated it when people corrupted His message of love to sound like, "I don't like you very much, but maybe we can fix you up so we CAN like you"? Wonder if Jesus really wasn't berating the lame man by the pool and accusing him of being lazy? Wonder if Jesus's words to him were meant to say, "Don't look to merciless discompassionate religious people to care about you - look to Me!" Wonder if His message was really supposed to sound like, "Hey, I see you suffering apart from God, the way I was - I know you - I know your suffering. Come where there is a definition of love that helps us overcome and suffering shapes eternal values". Wonder if you loved God because you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that He loved you more than anything? Wonder if He said He was alive and living outside of sacred texts and church, mosque, temple buildings? Wonder if He, Himself really didn't use scripture? Wonder if He were more concerned about how we define and express love than the law and scripture? Well, that's a lot of wondering for now -I think mustard seed faith begins with the truth of where we are, honestly and openly without fear of reproach or rejection. I hope you find the result of what you are pursuing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21219785.post-1162711563115096582006-11-05T02:26:00.000-05:002006-11-05T02:26:00.000-05:00Scott, I admire you for your courage to come out! ...Scott, I admire you for your courage to come out!
