It's International Blasphemy Rights Day 2010

Yep, that's right.

Bring on your blasphemies right here. I'll start with a gay Jesus, or is it rather a Jesus for gays? Warning: explicit cartoon image below.

Dude, label it NSFW and link to it or something, some people like to read their blogs at work.

Okay, okay, done.

This crime called blasphemy was invented by priests for the purpose of defending doctrines not able to take care of themselves.
~ Robert G. Ingersoll

You keep accusing me of blasphemy all of the time, but I cannot be convicted of a victimless crime.
~ Dan Barker

To make sure that my blasphemy is thoroughly expressed, I hereby state my opinion that the notion of a god is a basic superstition, that there is no evidence for the existence of any god(s), that devils, demons, angels and saints are myths, that there is no life after death, heaven nor hell, that the Pope is a dangerous, bigoted, medieval dinosaur, and that the Holy Ghost is a comic-book character worthy of laughter and derision. I accuse the Christian god of murder by allowing the Holocaust to take place -- not to mention the “ethnic cleansing” presently being performed by Christians in our world -- and I condemn and vilify this mythical deity for encouraging racial prejudice and commanding the degradation of women.
~ James Randi, challenging blasphemy laws in several US states

Jason

I'm somewhat encouraged to see that you have no problem in reading an atheist blog at work even though you do not wish to do so when it comes to a gay cartoon :)

Wait, what about this is Gay? It's not like he's making out with another Jesus

Maybe it;s that "three in one" thing?

You're right, it's just I found it when doing a search for "gay Jesus" so I figured I found it.

Me oh my.

Or, maybe I have some latent tendencies...we all do.

Happy Blasphemy Day.

I'm not sure that is blasphemy, after all it is pretty generous to Jesus.

The one (an ONLY one) thing I will say in defense of Christianity, at least there isn't a "fatwa" out on the artist or you for posting the picture. Post a "Gay Mohammad" and expect to need armed security protection.

mindyourmind it's not that the cartoon is or isn't gay (I don't think it is), it's the big Jesus penis that gets people in trouble with their bosses because most work places have policies about nudity and such on work computers.

Doesn't matter much to me, I work from home, just thinking of others. :)

What is the point of posting this? Just to piss off religious people to the point that they might refuse to dialogue with you?

Not a very good way to deconvert people.

My wife: My God, Jesus was really hung.

Me: No. He was crucified.

Was this trip really necessary, John?

Jesus H. Christ! I forgot it was International Blasphemy Rights Day 2010.

Mindyourmind, James Randi's..." the Pope is a dangerous, bigoted, medieval dinosaur, .." is not blasphemy, it's just plain fact.

Casper, the Holy Ghost is a comic-book character worthy of laughter and derision.

Sheesh

I misread Russ at first and thought his wife had said "Jesus was really well hung"...

but I think B(R)D is fairly weak and insipid. Was it an (enenlightened) innovation of the CFI? What is the point? To piss off religious people? Will it achieve anything? Will it win you the right to buy alcohol on Sundays? (someone told me you can't in america). Blashphemy isn't against the law in america. If you want to be courageous, and make a stand, go to Iran and blaspheme your hearts out there.:D

I'm cringing at my typos!! Anyway despite slagging off your blasphemy day partying, I haven't visited for a while but noticed you (John) were No 2. So congratulations :-) You're the only blog out of the top 10 of a different flavour - all the others are very believey ;-)

You're not the first to hold Christ in contempt nor will you be the last. But I would no more take offense at this than I would someone about to commit suicide. Taking offense at someone cutting themselves off from the source of grace is sad.

John you said:

"Or, maybe I have some latent tendencies...we all do."

You need to speak for yourself man. I'm not attracted at all to homosexuality. To me it's repulsive. Don't get me wrong. If someone wants to do it that's their buisness. It's just not for me. I can't imagine myself having sex with another man and enjoy it.
