Yep, pretty ridiculous. I've never been a young earther myself. I think a better interpretation of Genesis One would maybe be some form of the Framework Hypothesis or day age mixed with a local creation of the land of Eden for the six days.

Come on John, you know that God created the world with the appearence of age. Fully formed geological columns, light not only from stars but the same stars exploding in distant galaxies, fossils, fossil genetic markers in DNA, so why wouldn't there be super-old trees? ;)

Believe as you may John, but the God I believe in is so great, so unlimited, that he could create an old universe.
