Announcing Joe E. Holman's Book, Project Bible Truth.

Another DC member wrote a great book, Project Bible Truth.

I have been able to read through it prior to publication. It's an excellent book written by a master writer. It contains the most comprehensive deconversion story I've ever read. A must have book. Go to the link and you can preview it.

This is a pre-release edition. Amazon and other retailers will be getting it soon (but don't have it listed yet).

My recommendation of it will be on the back cover where I said:

"Joe's book contains the best written and most complete deconversion story I have read. His arguments are rock solid too. They come from a former insider to the Christian faith who formerly defended it. Let this book be a reminder to conservative Christians everywhere that their faith is a delusion which is propagated by ministers who should know better. Breaking free of this fantasy world can be very difficult to do, but with the arguments Joe offers, intellectual honesty demands it.

Christian, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by reading this book. If you come away from it with a stronger faith, then it helped you. If it destroys your faith, your faith wasn't worth having in the first place. Come on...what do you have to lose?"

However many hours of my life? I've read plenty of other atheist books - what does this one offer which the other ones don't?

Anonymous, it depends on which ones you've read. Go to the link and you can preview it for yourself. It ranks right up there with mine and Valerie Tarico's books. We deal with different topics and we have different emphases, but it's a must read for anyone wondering why Christianity is a delusion. It's certainly better than Sam Harris' Letter to a Christian Nation. Joe understands what he's writing about. He's probably the best writer to deal with these topics too.

Everyone from Richard Dawkins to Robert Price, Bart Erhman to Christopher Hitchens etc etc

If only we could all write our own reviews

I couldn't find any faith destroying arguments etc in the preview - just some rhetoric about how the church is brainwashing everyone (which ironic when most adverts etc promote materialism and values which I would associate with atheism.) Does the book get better later on then?

So better than a world-renowned scholar?

You have to understand that £13.71 is a lot of money to spend on what could turn out to be toilet paper. Do you often read Christian books?

Anon, I said it's a "must read." If you don't think so from previewing it or if you don't have the money then fine, don't get it.

John, you ask people what they have to lose.

But what you REALLY want to to is...by your own admission...POISON their faith, with a slow acting poison that will kick in when activated by a crisis.

Thus, your challenge is disingenuous, and demonstrates your basic lack of integrity. If is fortunate that you left the ministry...had you remained, you could have done far worse damage from within.

Listen up. Doctors prescribe drugs that kill viruses because they need to die for people to be healthy. So yes, like a good doctor I want to kill the virus of faith because I think it'll make people healthier.

By my challenge is not disengenuous at all. I know Christians will read our books and walk away with a stronger faith. I know some of them who have. I just think many Christians will find the arguments persuasive, that's all, because I think the reasons are there, silly. And I also think that's a good thing.

Dear Anonymous and Not Buying,

I've read plenty of Christian books. Those were the only book I read for years.

Comparing Holman's book or John's to "poison," depends on how afraid you may be to drink in what they are saying. Read them and read the apologists afterwards. Take both the "poison" and the "antidote" if that's how you view such books. But in the end I figure your mind will come up with its own questions as well as its own answers.

I edited a book of testimonies of people who left conservative born again Christianity or who left fundamentalism, for less conservative pastures. A third of the testimonies are by people who remained Christians though of a moderate to liberal persuasion. A few became adherents of other religions entirely, while others became agnostics or atheists. Each story lends insight into all of the processes that go into making such decisions. It's interesting reading.

So read widely and you will notice that you can't help thinking one way or another. Your brain-mind will come to its own conclusions eventually, religious or not, or maybe you'll wind up agnostic.

Oh, and I'm sorry but Joe's book is right up there with ED's book too. If you want to read why people leave the fold there is no better place to turn to but his book. It shows the process that causes many people to reject Christianity. Very highly recommended!

That sounds really interesting, especially since the book is from an ex-'inside' man.

And additional book for my stack of books besides my bed :)
