A New Atheist/Christian Blog

Daniel Morgan pointed out to me a new Blog on the block. It's called Philaletheia. Here's how it's described:
Somewhere in the blogosphere, two people met on a blog and started a conversation. That’s where this blog began. One is an atheist, one a devout Christian. Both are passionate about seeking truth in their own fashion. Both thought other truth-seekers might benefit from an open dialogue concerning truth-claims, how we know anything, and the nature of everything.

Perhaps you’ve surfed enough to know that atheist/Christian relations are often strained and seldom friendly. One objective of this blog is to listen deeply and learn to talk to one another. Both authors will be contributing thoughts on certain topics, that the other author will be able to respond in the comments along with all other readers.

What I like is that the Christian wrote something on How to Talk to Believers, while the atheist wrote something on How to talk to Atheists.

This is a unique concept, having them both share a Blog. Like them I have always wanted Debunking Christianity to be "a safe place for all involved, be they atheist, theist, or agnostic." I wish them well in their discussions.

One might want to contrast the tone of this new Blog with the tone of this one. There are atheist sites that are just as bad or worse, of course. We here at DC are not like either extreme, even though we put forth some strong arguments against Christianity.

Looks like an interesting concept. But I prefer the format here, putting forth an idea from one point of view, allowing comments for the other side, but not articles themselves. There are plenty of places for debate, not as many focused on what this site is all about.

Soulster, the individual who takes the Christian side, seems to be one who holds to liberal theology, atleast from the few posts that I've read thus far. Not much difference than liberal Christians and non believers to tell you the truth. It's no wonder the guy has made so many good friends with Atheists!

It'll be interesting to see if Soulster's pov on Christianity starts to attract Christian critics who don't like the company he's keeping.

Why the pretence?

Loftus, we know you despise religion and what your views are..."dialouge" is just a backdoor attack on theists.

Why not just come out with it?

Obviously, both can't be right, and since you already believe that everything came from nothing by nothing for nothing, according to your own book, then they are wasting their time.

After all, how do you "reason" with someone who believes that all existence, life, mind a and reason ITSELF are the products of mindless forces? Its irrational.

Schaeffer, yes, I argue against Christianity. But unless provoked I am not offensive toward any person. It's best to be cordial with those you disagree with, and I am. That way we both can learn from each other. In any cordial exchange like this kind both sides learn from each other. Only when that happens is there any chance to help each other see the other side.

Otherwise, we can just yell at each other, but doing so only makes us feel smarter. It doesn't help the other person undertsand anything much at all.

I don't think it'll be an issue at all. I've dialogued with atheists for over twenty years and don't recall ever having caught misery from fellow Christians. It's one of the few things we don't fight about with each other. LOL

I'm curious: what are the sorts of things that give you this impression? You may be using the word "liberal" in a theological context in a different way than I do.
