Hear Me on Hellbound Allee's Vox Populi Show

This takes you right to Episode 15. My voice is the second one to answer questions 1 and 3. It was my first time recording so I'm learning. John W. Loftus.

Eek! Objectivism. Scary.

Why is this so popular on the internet when it's virtually non-existent in academia.

I especially cringed at the answers to the question, "Is blood-sport moral?"

Any Christian listening to this should understand that Objectivism is to atheism what The New Age Movement is to theism (both have followers, but fail to make serious inroads in the movement).

I'm sure this comment won't sit without a backlash. Objectivists are often as aggressive about their beliefs as Christian fundamentalists (and, in my opinion, just as religious).

I just want to make sure that Christian listeners know that this is a fringe opinion in atheism. This group, however, is as over-represented on the internet as the presuppositionalists (another group that has very few followers in mainstream Christianity, but is ubiquitous on the internet).

Fire away and prove my point about your radicalism.

I chose which two questions to answer, and I purposely avoided the last one about whether bloodsport was moral. I try to stay away from speaking to any political issue here, since I have more than my hands full just with the intellectual foundations of Christianity.

I'm not sure I want to debate objectivism here either, but if you'd like to do so with them, then have at it. You're more than welcome to become a member here again...anytime.

John,

I've already chosen to take time to debate one obscure branch of religious philosophy (viz. presuppositionalism), so I'm not really into picking up another ;).

Objectivism? What are you guys talking about? I produced the show, and as far as I heard, you don't have to worry about scary old icky objectivism. I'm not an objectivist, Franc's not an objectivist. Maybe one of the answers was leaning in that direction. I don't think anyone has to worry about warning Christians that we are kooks. If you think that helps, go for it. Not believing in Jesus is "fringy" enough.

Vox Populi is not an "objectivist" show. It is a show by several different people, with an invitation for another member of the team open. If any of you want to insert your good, normal, non-fringy point of view into Vox POpuli, so that the christains know what "atheists are really like," email me at alleee@hellboundalleee.com

Alleee, thanks for the clarification, I didn't know what you thought. I did appreciate being on the show, and I'd like to do it again.

. . . Franc's not an objectivist.

Anyone want to read "Franc's Objectivist Movie Reviews"?

How about Franc's "Objective Thought" site where the first line is "This site is about objectivism, and important objective concepts, written by me, Fran├žois Tremblay."?

How about Franc's online course "Objectivism 101"? [It's also available in a self-published book form if you prefer.]

Or maybe Franc's article "What is Objectivism?" in which he writes, "The most rigorous philosophical system is Objectivism. It is the only such system based on explicit and valid axioms and deductions, which makes it the most reliable guide to a healthy relationship with reality."

Maybe you want to peruse his personal site and read other articles written from an objectivist point of view [e.g. the article on Libertarianism is astonishingly similar to the views expressed in his chapters on politics in his Objectivism 101 course.]

But, then again, you have Franc's statement, "Flash news : I never claimed to be an Objectivist. . ."

So I guess we are to believe that even though Franc thought that Objectivism was "the most reliable guide to a healthy relationship with reality," he didn't hold it himself. Instead, maybe he chose the second-most reliable guide to a healthy relationship with reality?

Additionally, I would be interested in knowing how the ethic described on this show is any different than the "Objectivist ethics" described in Franc's online course.

Yes, exbeliever, obviously the fact that I was a convinced Objectivist for many years has NOTHING to do with it. I should go and dig up your past religious affiliation so I can "refute" your claim of being an atheist! You went to church five years ago, that means you're lying!

Besides, I am a market anarchist now. How the hell does THAT fit in the Objectivist framework, idiot?

Secondly, my demands for new members are posted on blogs and message boards. I accept atheists from all worldviews. If a nihilistic communist wants to join the team, he's welcome. I certainly wouldn't respect him, but if he's eloquent and has opinions, then he's welcome. Unlike you and your bigot guru Raving Atheist, I tolerate people from all worldviews.

Yes... I was an Objectivist and I am not any more. Do you finally understand basic causality?

It's highly ironic that I just had this same discussion with Francois only a few days ago elsewhere. Exbeliever, did you read the comments in that post, or something? (I highly doubt it)

Interesting intersection of chance directions, I would think.

Anyway, we could all fight all day about politics and economics. Let's stick to the topics we're all eye-to-eye on, and here for: the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of Christianity.

Francois Tremblay said...

Gee, I guess I should please both of you guys and just delete all the work I've done on Objectivism in the past, including MOVIE REVIEWS!

Don't you guys have better things to do than rat on me for this nonsense?

"Let's stick to the topics we're all eye-to-eye on, and here for: the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of Christianity."

I agree!

But just to make this clear: Vox Populi is NOT an Objectivist show. It is an atheistic show. Anything else is baseless slander.

No offense meant to FT, but who gives a flying turd if he is an objectivist, a soi-disant market anarchist or a Fabian socialist?

There is nothing soi-disant about my market anarchism, buddy. ;)
